With Swimming Season Right Around the Corner, PcPools.com Warns Consumers About Permit Requirements for Above Ground Swimming Pools March 12, 2013 10:23 AM

St. Paul, MN - March 12, 2013

Swimming pool season is just around the corner and homeowners across the country will be installing pools for the very first time. PcPools, one of America’s leading direct marketers of above ground pools and pool supplies, encourages new pool buyers to get the facts regarding local rules and regulations for swimming pool installation before they make a purchase. By doing so, buyers ensure there are no unexpected problems or delays—or eventual fines—and the purchased pool and equipment satisfies all applicable requirements.

Most homeowners and potential pool owners know that installing an in ground swimming pool typically requires a building permit, if not more. Some soon to be pool buyers fail to realize, however, that an above ground swimming pool must adhere to local permit requirements as well. Cook County, Illinois, for example, requires certain drawings and specifications be approved by two different agencies: the Cook County Public Health Department and the Cook County Department of Building and Zoning. Technically, even a small semi-rigid wading pool with 1 ½ foot depth, designed for toddlers, would fall under the guidelines in Cook County.

Each area of the country may have different rules, requirements, and procedures, so PcPools is not suggesting all consumers follow those guidelines. We cite them to illustrate the importance of buyers and owners staying up to date with applicable rules and regulations in their area. Marketing Director Steven Anderson added this: "In addition to building and installation approval requirements, many cities and counties have rules about fencing and pool covers. A fully-enclosed area with a self-latching safety gate is a requirement that we see a lot of, but many areas of the country go even further than that. Riverside, California, for example, requires exit alarms on doors that provide direct access from the home to the pool area."

Whatever the local regulations are, PcPools.com encourages consumers to get as much information as they can to enable the most informed buying decision possible. Information on pool permits and other local building restrictions are available through local building departments and often readily available on the Internet.
