Pool Tip #2: General Pool Safety Guidelines

Pool safety laws and regulations typically vary by state or county, although there are some general concepts that apply to nearly jurisdiction. Here are a few recommendations to make sure that your pool environment is as safe as possible:

  • Your pool should be fully fenced in. By preventing unwanted pool entry from all four sides, you are proactively eliminating a potential accident.
  • Make sure that the pool fencing’s gate is self-closing and latches.
  • If your house serves as one of the four sides of a pool enclosure, be sure to have locks on the house’s doors to prevent children from gaining access to the swimming pool. Even in an above ground pool setting, you only want your children to be able to access the pool when you let them.
