Tip #50: Pool Heater Maintenance

One of the most important concepts involved in proper pool heater maintenance content is the mineral composition of the pool water. The proper chemical balance in swimming pool water is vital because if it gets too high, the excess minerals will deposit into the heater’s tubes. If a chalky, smoky odor is coming from your pool heater, it probably means that it is having difficulty processing an extraordinary amount of pool chemicals. Also, it is equally important to make sure that the hoses are connected properly. If your heater is producing a pounding or grinding noise, it typically means that there is inadequate water flow – meaning it is time to recheck the hose connections. Failing to make sure that either one of those factors are correct could lead to a damaged heat exchanger, which most pool heater manufacturers do not include in the warranty specifications.
