Pc Pools Announces the Top Three Categories for Safe Online Shopping

- Security – This consists of several things. First, look for an online vendor’s certifications which are typically found on the bottom of the webpage. Better Business Bureau Certification, Antivirus Software, and the form of Transaction Provider the website uses should all be clearly provided on the bottom of the webpage. Second, anytime you make an online order, be sure that the website’s "checkout" page is secure. This can be identified by looking at the URL on your browser. Normally a URL will start with "http", but the URL should read "https" when a secure transaction is being made. If you are about to give your credit card to an online vendor, be sure that the "https" is in your browser’s URL.
- Legitimacy – Regardless of a transaction’s size, you should always look to contact an online company directly before making a purchase. Any company that does not make itself available to its customers should be looked at with skepticism in today’s age of advanced customer service. An online vendor’s legitimacy can be confirmed by simply calling the customer service line to confirm the price and availability of the product you want. If there is not someone at the business that can complete that simple of a task, do not buy.
- Fulfillment – An online vendor can be both secure and legitimate while still falling short. Some factors that contribute to fulfillment is privacy, return policy, and service after the sale. Privacy is important because it is important to know what a business will do with your contact information once it is obtained. What will the company do with your credit card information after a purchase? Will they give out your e-mail address to solicitors? The return policy should always be included in your first line of questions with a customer service representative. Be sure to ask about what the procedure is if the product arrives defective. Lastly, service after the sale is imperative in online commerce. Who will you contact about product warranty issues? Will you be dealing with a manufacturer, or will the online vendor’s customer service staff act as a liaison between you and an often difficult to contact engineer?
